Greetings!

I want to welcome you to the beginning of a fabulous year!  We are preparing a number of  wonderful programs and events for you.  Please join us on facebook so that you can be notified of the various programs, announcements and events  for this year.

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) will be having elections for Senators on Tuesday, September 6th. You will need to log in to your myOleMiss account to vote for your representative.

If you did not receive your Grad School shirt at Orientation, come by the Grad House to pick one up.

“Becoming a Professor! – Tips for Entering the Academic Job Market”

Would you like some tips on how to get an academic position?

Are you curious how your professors got their academic positions?

Then please join us for a round-table discussion with professors who will share their insight and personal experiences

Tuesday, January 25th at 7:00 pm in Hill Hall

 

 “Becoming a Professor! – Tips for Entering the Academic Job Market”

 

Hosted by Dr. Maurice Eftink, Associate Provost and Graduate School Dean

This program will be a candid discussion about how graduate students should apply for and transition into academic positions, including a panel discussion offering practical tips and real-world advice on searching for jobs, preparing your curriculum vitae and interviewing with schools. The following professors will be offering their thoughts on the process:

  • Dr. Victoria Bush, Professor of Marketing, School of Business Administration
  • Dr. Ivo Kamps, Professor of English, Department of English
  • Dr. K.B. Melear, Associate Professor, Department of Leadership and Counselor Education
  •  Dr. Timothy Nordstrom, Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Political Science

This program is part of a series sponsored by The Graduate School and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning aimed at teaching graduate students what they need to know but will not learn in the classroom. “Mentoring: What to Expect in the Relationship with Your Advisor”

Do you have questions about what that working relationship should be?

Then please join us this Tuesday, October 26th at 7:00 pm in Hill Hall for

“Mentoring: What to Expect in the Relationship with Your Advisor”

Hosted by Dr. Maurice Eftink, Associate Provost and Graduate School Dean

This program will be a candid discussion about what it means to work with a graduate advisor, what should be expected of you as a graduate student and also what you should expect of your graduate advisor.  The program will also include a panel discussion concerning the working relationship between graduate advisors and students featuring:

 Please join us this Tuesday, September 28th at 7:00 pm at The Depot –  behind Ford Center –  for

 “Overview of the Graduate Student Workshop Series”

 with presentations byDrs. Maurice Eftink, Christy Wyandt, and Susan Mossing

 This seminar is the kickoff for a series of talks that will take place the last Tuesday of every month and that are aimed at helping your professional development.
